What Is The Best Overall SnowBlower For The Money?

Posted by Donald Schrempf on

I had the same question as my 15 year old yard machine was on her last leg. She was small and not very powerful but did the job. FYI it took me over 1.5 hours to snowblow my driveway. Living in New England I figured I needed some more punch. In 2016 we had a heck of a winter. My snowblower did not cut it. I actually had to find a plow guy to bail us out as the snowblower could not handle the onslaught of New England blizzards. So I set out to find the top five best snowblowers for the money. Below are my recommendations for the top 3 snowblowers for the money.

#1 Husqvarna ST224P 24-Inch 208cc Two Stage Electric Start with Power Steering Snow thrower The Husqvarna ST224P two stage snow thrower works great for snow accumulations of 2-12 inches. Features include a 208cc Husqvarna engine, Power Steering, electric start, LED headlight, 24-inch clearing path, 180 degree remote chute rotation with remote deflector, heated grip handles, 12-inch improved performance ribbon augers, friction disc transmission, aluminum gearbox, 15-inch tires, and 2.7 liter fuel tank. 3 Year Limited Warranty and 5 Year Engine and Auger Gear Box Warranty.

This baby comes in with a 24 Inch clearing path. She can throw some serious snow comfortably up to a foot. The 208CC Husqvarna engine throws snow farther than most units available today. A little pricey coming in around $1000 but the most power at the 24 inch level.

#2 Briggs & Stratton 27" Dual-Stage Snow Blower w/ Heated Hand Grips, Electric Start, and 250cc Snow Series Engine, Elite 1227.

Powered by a durable Briggs & Stratton 1150 Snow Series OHV Engine, this dual-stage snow blower with a 27-inch clearing width is a perfect fit for helping you clear away moderate to heavy snow on driveways and pathways. This snow blower is packed with features to help make clearing snow easier and more enjoyable. With dual-trigger steering, simply pull a trigger to release the left or right wheel to help make tight turns easy. Free Hand Control allows for one-handed operation, giving you a free hand to adjust the speed or the height/direction of the chute on-the-go with the dash-mounted controls. Heated hand grips with an on/off switch keep your hands warmer while blowing snow on a cold winter's day. A larger cut than the other blowers on our list adding 3" just saves time. This monster will throw snow 30' and make quick work of moderate to heavy snow. Coming in at roughly $950 dollars this unit is moderately priced and a solid pick for sure.

#3 Troy-Bilt Storm 2460 208cc Electric Start 24-Inch Two-Stage Gas Snow Thrower Looking for a powerful snow removal solution to ease your winter weather needs? Look no further than the Troy-Bilt Storm 2460 208cc 24” Two-Stage Electric Start Gas Snow Thrower! This snow thrower is powered by a dependable 208cc 4-cycle OHV gas engine that features an electric start and self-propelled driving system with 6 forward and 2 reverse speeds. The One-Hand Operation feature locks in speed, freeing the other hand to operate the chute and pitch controls. The extended chute can rotate up to a full 200 degrees and helps minimize blowback during operation. This model includes an in dash headlight with reflective stripes on the auger providing added safety in low visibility conditions and polymer skid shoes to help protect surfaces from scuffing. The Troy-Bilt Storm 2460 can clear snowy pathways up to 24” wide and is backed by a 2-year limited warranty.

A solid and powerful option. 24" Cut with great power to cut through the toughest snow. The only drawback is the hard plastic wheels. A little tougher to maneuver than the Husqvarna unit due to these wheels. Under $900 dollars and will certainly get the job done. All the bells and whistles of the Husqvarna but those wheels could slip in icy conditions more than a rubber wheel.

I am sure you are asking which unit I chose to purchase? I went with number 3. Saved a bit of money and still got the power I was looking for. I do wish I went with the Husqvarna but a little pricey for my tastes. I have run into issues with the hard plastic wheels but a quick push and I am off and running. Still a great buy.
